Louisville, Kentucky and French Lick, Indiana – A Kid’s Perspective

This winter break my family planned a trip to Louisville, Kentucky leading up to French Lick, Indiana. We did many fun activities and had some delicious food! I would happily go back! If you are looking into a fun (and a little bit random) trip, here are some ideas.

this is a pic from our hotel, it had a mirror wall!

Museums

Louisville Slugger Factory and Museum: This museum is super fun and interactive! It is the perfect place for a family with kids. I’m not a big baseball fan, but this museum was really interesting! Once you get there you can choose from baseball bats used by a famous baseball player. I chose to hold Babe Ruth’s bat, but you can choose from many more! I would also recommend doing the guided tour of the factory where they make the bats. The tour was super fun and interesting. Our tour guide was very nice and I learned a lot!

Muhammad Ali Center: I was not too interested at first when my parents told me we were going here, but once I got there I was amazed! It is again very interactive, and great for kids. At the start of the museum you go up to the fifth floor to watch a 15-20 min video on Muhammad Ali’s life beyond the boxing ring and inside. I thought this museum was fun and great for kids my age!

Churchill Downs: This fun and uplifting museum is all about the Kentucky Derby, in fact it’s where the annual Kentucky Derby takes place! I would recommend doing a tour of the racing track, the tour guide will show you where the horses take off, the winner’s circle, and you will even get a chance to sit in the owners box! Me and my little brother thought this was the coolest thing! If you are planning to come here in the winter make sure to stay nice and warm because the tour is outside.

Dinning

  • La Bodeguita de Mima Cuban: This restaurant was the best I ever had! Right as you get there they bring you soft and warm bread with a selection of guava butter and chive butter! My brother and I sipped on our delicious guava and banana juice. We all were so amazed by how beautiful the restaurant was! We sat inside but we were curious to see the heated patio so we took a quick peek and it was super nice! They had a saxophonist and a couple heaters to stay warm in the winter. The heaters made it warm enough for the cold weather so that you can be comfortable in a sweatshirt and pants. Our waitress was super nice and shared a bit more about the restaurant, and overall this is a big MUST-DO!
  • Schnitzelbank:  My family and I loved this restaurant for so many different reasons! The setting is a restaurant in Germany. One of the main reasons we loved this restaurant is because of the desserts! After eating all of our delicious food we were super full. But of course we could never say no to warm apple strudel with cinnamon ice cream to top it all off! Our  waitress was super nice and I would love to go back!
  • French Lick resort restaurants: we did go to the hotel restaurant the first night. It was not much, the food was ok but it took a while to get. The hotel buffet was very nice and I would definitely recommend it.
  • Geraldine’s: This is a lovely restaurant! It is very bright and gets you in a good mood. My mom and I got the apple pie grilled cheese! It was so good! It’s grilled cheese with apples and cinnamon is the chef’s kiss! I know it does not sound very appealing but trust me it was super good!

Thank you for reading this! I hope it will help you in the future!
